For over twenty-seven years I provided counselling and Social Work services in hospital and community settings across Australia, working with people experiencing many different emotional and physical health challenges, before moving into private practice. I am passionate about helping people address stressful feelings and emotions regarding past or current experiences, to gain clarity, make clearer choices and feel better.
My approach
Focusing on your specific individual needs, I use powerful stress management techniques such as Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), Mindfulness and breath work, together with traditional counselling methods such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help you understand and move forward from stress and trauma.
Down to earth and judgement free, my approach is focused on how stress and/or trauma is impacting your physical and emotional health and helping you make sense of this in easy to understand ways. Supporting you in making the changes you want and need to move forward in your life.
The pace of appointments is guided by you. You are the expert in your situation and I am guided by this. I believe we all have the answers we are seeking if given the opportunity to unpack and clarify what is getting in the way.
The most common feedback people provide at the end of appointments is they feel calmer, the issue they came in with doesn't feel like so much of an issue anymore, and they have a greater sense of clarity about what to do next.
Expressive art techniques
If you are someone who prefers to express themselves creatively or perhaps finds it too difficult or painful to talk about your experiences, then be sure to ask about the option of using expressive art techniques. These techniques provide a way to safely explore emotions and memories and get to the core of the issue without necessarily needing to talk about the event or concern. No art experience is required as the process is about self-expression through simple mark making rather than creating a piece of art.
